Media literacy education
membership organizations in the U.S.

(see International Links for many organizations based outside the U.S.)

  • National Association for Media Literacy Education (formerly AMLA, the Alliance for Media Literate America). Highly recommended for public school educators. NAMLE is the oldest and largest membership organization for K-12 and college/university media literacy educators. Members also include public health experts, child and youth advocates, community activists and more. The NAMLE sponsors a bi-annual conference, has a monthly email newsletter for members, and has launched the online Journal of Media Literacy Education. Excellent resources on the website.

  • Educational associations whose conferences often include media literacy-related programming include the National Council of Teachers of English and National Council for the Social Studies.
