Media Literacy Education Library:
Articles and Background Reading
A few websites have large
repositories of excellent background reading materials on media
literacy and media education. The two sites below are the
best of the best.
Center
for Media Literacy. This organization has become a for-profit consulting organization, however the website still has a real treasure: all the
back articles from Media&Values magazine, the publication
by CML founder Elizabeth Thoman who started the drive for media
education in the United States more than 30 years ago. All the topics
and issues covered then are still relevant today.
In addition to the Media&Values archive, CML's Reading
Room also has a wealth of material in these major categories:
- History
of Media Literacy in the US
Historical documents, reflection articles and conference reports
trace influences on the growth of media literacy in the USA.
- Media

assessment, integration of technology and other connections to
the media literacy field.
